The Story of Omani Fencing

In six years the Oman Fencing Committee has gone from foundation to its best-ever regional performance. This timeline traces the milestones that built Omani fencing, committee formation, FIE membership, the first Arab medal, the first national championship, and the emergence of a generation of internationally competitive athletes.

    Oman Fencing Committee established

    The Oman Fencing Committee is formally constituted under the umbrella of the Oman Olympic Committee, launching the sport on a national footing for the first time.

    Closer to FIE recognition

    The committee moves a step closer to global recognition following formal engagement with the International Fencing Federation (FIE).

    FIE membership approved

    The FIE approves Oman's membership, opening the door to international competition for Omani fencers.

    First Arab medal

    Oman claim a bronze medal at the Arab Fencing Championship, the committee's first regional podium finish.

    First domestic championship

    The committee organises the first edition of the Sultanate of Oman Fencing Championship, with eight clubs competing across junior foil and épée categories.

    Asian umpiring licence

    Omani officials Tabook and Al Harthi earn the Asian umpiring licence, strengthening the country's international officiating presence.

    Mediterranean Championship medals

    Omani fencers claim medals at the Mediterranean Championship, a first at this level for the national programme.

    FIE Congress, Lausanne

    OFC leadership attends the FIE Congress in Lausanne as a full voting member, representing Oman on the global stage.

    GCC Youth Games, 11 medals

    Oman finish the inaugural GCC Youth Games in the UAE with two gold, two silver and seven bronze medals in fencing, including team gold in women's épée.

    Asian Junior Championship bronze

    Jana Al Sharji, Israa Al Siyabi and Salma Al Daghishi win bronze at the Asian Junior Fencing Championship in Kuwait, the first Asian-level women's medal for Oman.

    West Asia Championship, 36 medals

    A thirty-one-strong Omani team returns from the West Asia Championship in Bahrain with 36 medals, 13 gold, 11 silver, 12 bronze, the best regional performance in the committee's history.
